Overview

The Field Superintendent plays a critical role in the success of Cotton Bowl Stadium.  Reporting to the Stadium Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the playing turf through regular mowing, maintenance, fertilization and irrigation.  The Field Superintendent also supports other Fair Park Dallas work groups including Horticulture, Operations and Events by performing tasks related to event and facility readiness across the Fair Park campus.

About the Venue

Fair Park Dallas is a 277-acre, multi-venue complex and public park located in Sunny South Dallas.  Home to seven cultural institutions, iconic Cotton Bowl Stadium, and the State Fair of Texas, Fair Park Dallas is the largest collection of Art Deco Architecture in the United States and is designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mowers and other lawn equipment for trimming for the maintenance, repair, painting, fertilizing, spraying and mowing of athletic field
  • Must keep daily log of field activities of all completed assignments.
  • Fertilization, irrigation, field painting and preparation for athletic contests
  • Light maintenance on small motors, lawn equipment and irrigation
  • Removes litter and weeds, cleans floors and facility grounds to maintain upkeep of facility
  • Loads and unloads tools, materials (light construction, compost, soil, turf)
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper operating conditions
  • Assist other departments with grounds maintenance activities, event readiness and general gounds keeping such as litter control, litter control, hardscape maintenance
  • Cross-train in other areas as requested by crew leader/supervisor
  • Bleacher installation and removal
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in turf and landscape maintenance of a championship turf
  • Must be able to do field design and painting. Painting to include football and soccer field lines.  Football painting would include logos and team names
  • Working knowledge of lawn equipment to include mowers, weed eaters, pressure washers, tractors and other similar equipment
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment
  • Ability to operate various types of lifts including fork lift, scissor lift, boom lift, pallet jack, etc.
  • Knowledge of small motors
  • Physical strength, stamina and agility
  • Ability to perform a variety of moderate to heavy physical labor for extended periods
  • Ability to follow drawings, designs, and oral/written instructions from a supervisor, which has several steps, procedures or routines
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions
  • Willingness to learn turf management skills, including but not limited to performing/reviewing soil reports, insect management, sport specific mowing requirements.
  • Must be able to build a comprehensive granular and foliar fertilization program.
  • Excellent attendance is a must
