Overview

OVG is searching for several laborer positions for our operation at Fair Park, located in Dallas, TX. The laborer position is responsible for assisting in the daily upkeep of the grounds and appearance of the park by performing a wide range of landscape and irrigation duties.

 

Dallas Fair Park covers 277 acres just east of downtown Dallas.   Its cultural, educational, and sporting facilities play host to more than 4 million people annually. Dallas Fair Park hosts more than 1200 activities and events each year including festivals, fairs, concerts, and theatrical productions, while also being home to historical art exhibits, sporting events, garden activities and much more.

Responsibilities

  • Performs landscape duties including but not limited to mowing, edging, trimming, aerating, top dressing, laying down sod and mulch, planting flowers, cleaning up debris, digging, blowing leaves, pulling weeds, watering plans etc.
  • Uses hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning equipment, hedge, or brush trimmers to perform a wide range of landscape and irrigation duties.
  • Takes care of all equipment and materials used in performing landscaping duties
  • Clears sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots of debris.
  • Performs loading and unloading of equipment, tools, materials, and debris to and from vehicles
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment used
  • Follows company’s safety policies, guidelines, and instructions
  • Practices consistent dependability, attendance and adheres to work schedules
  • May assist in minor exterior repairs as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D certificate
  • A valid driver’s license
  • 6 months of general landscape experience
  • Ability to work in a variety of outside conditions for long periods of time
  • Able to work 8+ hours per day with applicable breaks x 5 days/week (some overtime and weekend work required 
  • Previous experience in commercial ground maintenance/horticulture
  • The ability to use hand equipment with mechanized moving blades such as gas-powered shears
  • Experience using manual hand tools such as shovels
  • Ability to move soil, equipment, and materials, digs holes, and plant trees, shrubs, and flowers.
