Lead Catering Server | Part-Time | Iowa Events Center

The Lead Catering Server leads hourly event staff at catered events as directed by the Catering Managers. Responsible for serving guests in the venue dining areas at catered functions. Must be personable, professional, and able to work in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. This role requires that the employee maintain excellent attendance and be available to work a varied, event-driven schedule, including evenings and weekends.  

This role pays an hourly rate of $20.00.

• Lead hourly event staff, as directed by the Catering Manager, following a written Banquet Event Order (BEO) and event timeline.
• Responsible for overseeing effective execution of events.
• Coach and counsel other catering employees on standard operating procedures & best practices.
• Ensure staff are briefed on event requirements at each shift and assigned to a specific area prior to events.
• Answers questions of catering staff and provides direction based on ability to comprehend BEOs.
• Conducts a walkthrough of rooms and storage areas after teardown & completion of the event to ensure all areas are clean and organized.
• Monitors food & beverage quality and guest service and ensures the highest level of guest service during the event.
• Demonstrate the ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance, be well-groomed with a professional appearance, and adhere to uniform standards.
• Set up banquet functions, including linens, dishware, glassware, and flatware, and requested tabletop items.
• Serve guests and replenish food for buffet service.
• Responsible for overseeing the service of alcoholic beverages to guests.
• Ensures staff members are checking IDs to verify minimum age and are serving beverages responsibly in accordance with state/federal regulations. 
• Enforces all OVG venue policies and procedures as they relate to guest satisfaction, quality standards, uniform policy, operating procedures, and quality presentation.
• All other duties as assigned by the Catering Manager, Sr. Catering Manager, or GM of Food Service and Hospitality.

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• 1+ years’ food service/catering or related lead experience is preferred.
• Banquet serving experience or other related serving experience in a fine dining or professional service industry.
• Basic computer proficiency with typing and emails. Experience with MS Word, Excel, & Outlook is preferred.
• Strong communications skills. Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, guests, managers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail, monitor behaviors of guests, and have positive interpersonal relations.
• Ability to be self-directed with little oversight and lead a team.
• Requires creating and sustaining a positive, teamwork-oriented employee climate.
• Ability to work a varied part-time schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and long hours.
• Must be able to work an entire early shift from 4am to 3pm or an entire late shift from 2pm to 1am Sunday through Saturday, but will not be required to work 7 days a week.
