Position Summary

The Overnight Security Officer for the Palm Springs Convention Center helps to ensure a safe environment by providing building security at the venue. This position will be involved with monitoring cameras, security patrols, monitoring security and fire panels, shipping & receiving, and parking safety.

This role pays an hourly rate of $20.50 - $22.00.

Responsibilities

  • Provide security for incident response and risk assessments.
  • Assist with policies and procedures for safety and security protocols at the venue.
  • Ensure all building security systems are operating as necessary during events and non-event days. Security systems include, but are not limited to, cameras and access control, physical security equipment (screening gateways, handwands, etc.)
  • Serve as initial point of contact for client and employee security inquiries, concerns, and/or complaints during an event.
  • Work with the Events department and offer guidance related to security policies and provide solutions for business-specific security issues.
  • Establish and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with customers, including local, state, and federal authorities.
  • Maintain the venue’s reputation for excellent experience by balancing enforcement and rules and regulations with guest safety and enjoyment.
  • Maintain the proper image and generate positive public relations by resolving guest/client/tenant issues, concerns, and complaints pertaining to security during events.
  • Communicate with client security personnel and advance various tour needs in preparation for the event.
  • Work directly with emergency services personnel, law enforcement, and medical and first aid staff.
  • Assist in communications to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies if relevant for the event.
  • Make real-time decisions and communicate with management, first responders, venue guests, employees, and clients in the facility in an emergency situation.
  • Respond to all medical situations in order to provide first aid and evaluate next levels of medical aid.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Conduct routine vehicle patrols of the property using company-assigned security vehicles to monitor premises, identify safety and security concerns, and support a secure environment for guests, employees, and visitors.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Promotes and fulfills Oak View Group goals and service standards.
  • Participates in safety programs to achieve safety goals.
  • Assists the department and organization with various projects and special assignments as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience in safety and security. Security experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Flexible schedule: able to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Professional certification: Guard Card
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California State Driver’s License.
  • Experience working in hospitality and/or public spaces.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations is required. Able to remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Handles complex issues.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new programs. Working knowledge of MS Office programs, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to perform prolonged standing, prolonged walking, and being able to work in varying weather at times.
  • Ability to frequently bend, lift heavy objects, and walk through buildings and exterior parking lots.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
