Position Summary

The Concession Manager will assist the Director of Concessions with the overall management of all OVG-managed athletic and live event venue concession operations, including inventory controls, product ordering, cash controls, compliance with alcohol service policies, cleaning, safety, guest service, equipment inspection, employee training and supervision, warehouse stocking and oversight, troubleshooting, closing duties, event planning support, food preparation, production, stand stocking, post-event reconciliation and reporting, and any other tasks assigned by the Director of Concessions. The Concessions Manager will supervise Concessions employees. The Concessions Manager must be available to work a variable, event-driven schedule, including evenings, holidays and weekends, as needed. Flexible availability, professional presentation, outstanding interpersonal skills, and strong technical aptitude are required.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $53,000 - $56,000.

About the Venue

A state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility, the Thomas M. Ryan Center, located on the University of Rhode Island campus in scenic South County, opened its doors in June 2002. Home to URI Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs, the Ryan Center also features the URI football team's locker room, along with athletic department offices, training rooms, players' lounges, and a souvenir store. The venue seats 8,000 for basketball and over 6,300 for concerts, family shows, lectures, and other community events. The Ryan Center was designed and built to meet all ADA specifications to accommodate our guests with disabilities. Located in Kingston, the Center draws on an audience of over 1.4 million people within a 40-mile radius.

Responsibilities

  • Provide event oversight and operational/personnel support to ensure smooth operation.
  • Manage concession operations for athletic, entertainment, and special events across campus venues.
  • Manage, schedule, train, and develop part-time employees, volunteers, and nonprofit groups; oversee payroll and event-day staffing.
  • Manage all event-day operations, including setup, food production, stocking, POS operations, guest service, cleanup, and post-event reconciliation.
  • Ensure food quality, sanitation, safety, cleanliness, and operational standards are consistently maintained.
  • Oversee concession equipment, POS systems, inventory, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure operational readiness.
  • Reconcile event sales, monitor cash and product variances, complete required reporting, and assist with monthly inventory.
  • Monitor financial, operational, and guest-service performance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Coordinate with venue management and other departments to ensure successful event execution and provide hands-on operational support as needed.
  • Maintain required operational procedures, training materials, logs, and event documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of previous concessions, food and beverage management, or related management experience.
  • Alcohol service and food safety/management certifications are preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, POS, timekeeping, and related systems.
  • Demonstrated experience training, managing, and developing employees.
  • Strong organizational, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory controls, cash handling, reconciliation, and basic business math.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and ability to work effectively with employees, management, and guests.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
