Lead Electrical Technician | Full-Time | Palm Beach County Convention Center

The Lead Electrical Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and modification of electrical systems within a high-volume convention center, exhibition facility, and arena environment. This position plays a critical role in supporting trade shows, conventions, concerts, sporting events, corporate meetings, exhibits, and other large-scale events. The Lead Electrical Technician will coordinate and execute temporary and permanent electrical installations, including show power, exhibit hall power distribution, arena power, event power drops, lighting, emergency power systems, and electrical equipment retrofits. The ideal candidate is an experienced, hands-on electrical professional who can interpret and create electrical schematics, develop event power plans, troubleshoot complex systems, work effectively under tight event timelines, and lead or train other Engineering team members. The position requires exceptional attention to safety, detail, customer service, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing event requirements.

This role pays an hourly rate of $28.00 - $30.00

• Lead the planning, installation, modification, and removal of temporary electrical systems and show power for conventions, trade shows, concerts, sporting events, exhibits, and other venue events.
• Install and maintain electrical power distribution throughout exhibit halls, ballrooms, meeting spaces, loading areas, outdoor event areas, and arena facilities.
• Perform electrical power drops for exhibitors, vendors, production companies, concessionaires, event organizers, and other clients in accordance with approved event requirements.
• Review event requirements, floor plans, production specifications, and electrical load requirements to determine appropriate power distribution.
• Create, update, and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, power distribution plans, and event-specific electrical layouts.
• Develop practical electrical setup plans for events, including panel locations, temporary distribution, feeder routing, power drops, disconnects, and load requirements.
• Coordinate electrical installations with Engineering, Event Services, Production, Operations, Security, and outside contractors as necessary.
• Inspect temporary installations to verify proper connections, grounding, labeling, capacity, accessibility, and safe operating conditions.
• Modify or retrofit existing electrical systems when event requirements, facility improvements, equipment upgrades, or changing operational needs require modifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues before and during events to minimize downtime and disruption.
• Provide technical support during event move-in, show hours, and move-out as required.
• Assist with determining electrical loads and balancing circuits to maintain safe and reliable operation.
• Ensure temporary electrical installations are removed, restored, and properly stored following events.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility electrical systems and equipment.
• Routinely test, inspect, and maintain emergency generators, emergency lighting, transfer equipment, and related auxiliary electrical systems.
• Maintain venue lighting fixtures, including troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, replacements, and installation of new fixtures.
• Maintain electrical panels, transformers, disconnects, distribution equipment, receptacles, switches, controls, and associated equipment.
• Maintain appropriate clearance around electrical panels, transformers, disconnects, generators, and other electrical equipment.
• Inspect electrical equipment and identify potential hazards, deficiencies, or required repairs before they become operational issues.
• Maintain electrical cords, temporary power equipment, distribution equipment, extension cords, and other event-related electrical equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues associated with parking gates and related access equipment.
• Assist with facility electrical upgrades, renovations, retrofits, and capital improvement projects.
• Support outside electrical contractors and vendors when required, ensuring work is performed safely and in accordance with facility requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, equipment conditions, and preventive maintenance activities.
• Operate, configure, program, and monitor Square D PowerLink / PowerLogic systems and related electrical power management equipment.
• Configure zones and groups, monitor system conditions, and generate reports as required.
• Assist with troubleshooting electrical distribution and power management system issues.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and settings for electrical control and monitoring systems.
• Track daily productivity through allocation sheets, daily logs, work orders, and MicroMain or other facility maintenance management systems.
• Clearly communicate work issues, safety concerns, project changes, delays, and equipment problems in a timely manner.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure electrical work is completed according to event schedules and facility priorities.
• Maintain accurate documentation of event setups, electrical modifications, repairs, and completed work.
• Serve as a technical resource and working lead for the Engineering team regarding event electrical requirements.
• Train and mentor Engineering team members on show power, temporary electrical distribution, event setups, electrical safety, troubleshooting, and proper equipment operation.
• Provide professional, responsive, and solutions-oriented customer service to internal departments, exhibitors, event organizers, production teams, vendors, contractors, and other external clients.
• Respond professionally and effectively to urgent electrical issues during live events.
• Perform all work in accordance with applicable electrical codes, OSHA requirements, facility policies, manufacturer requirements, and established safety procedures.
• Follow proper lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices.
• Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Ensure temporary electrical installations do not create trip hazards, blocked access, overloaded circuits, or other unsafe conditions.

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of a five-year electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent recognized electrical training.
• Licensed Journeyman Electrician required. Master Electrician License is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated experience with commercial or industrial electrical systems, preferably in a large venue, convention center, arena, hotel, stadium, performing arts center, or similarly complex facility.
• Experience installing and maintaining temporary event power, exhibit power, show power, and large-scale electrical distribution systems strongly preferred.
• Experience reading and creating electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and electrical layouts.
• Demonstrated experience with maintenance and repair of electrical power-generating equipment, emergency generators, transfer equipment, and auxiliary systems is highly desirable.
• Experience with electrical controls, power monitoring, and building electrical management systems preferred.
• Experience with Square D PowerLink / PowerLogic systems preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond effectively to changing event schedules and urgent operational needs.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary Engineering team.
• Must be able to report for emergencies and respond to critical facility needs as required.
