Position Summary

The Barista's highest priority will be supporting overall profitability and guest satisfaction by providing exceptional customer service while maintaining OVG's standards for safety, cleanliness, and sanitation. The ideal candidate will need to have some experience within food retail or a similar quality-led, high-volume, fast-paced environment. Great presence, personality, communication skills, and a love of food and drink are essential.

 

This role will pay an hourly rate of $20.00-$21.00

About the Venue

The Pasadena Convention Center is a campus-style meetings and events complex in Pasadena, California offering 130,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. 

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers, take orders, provide recommendations, answer questions about menu items, and handle payments.
  • Initiate dialogue and develop rapport with guests by learning their names and favorite food and drink items.
  • Educate guests regarding menu offerings; initiate suggestive selling and sampling of products.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, espresso drinks, teas, and specialty drinks.
  • Follow specific recipes, ensure consistency, and may create latte art to enhance the customer experience.
  • Ensure a welcoming environment and address customer concerns to maintain satisfaction.
  • Operate coffee machines, grinders, and other equipment, calibrate espresso machines, and manage point-of-sale systems.
  • Assist with inventory management, stock supplies, and prepare food items such as pastries, sandwiches, or snacks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, sanitize equipment, clean counters, restock supplies, and ensure the dining area is tidy.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience in coffee shops, smoothie bars, cafés, or restaurant beverage programs preferred.
  • Experience operating espresso machines, blenders, grinders, and related beverage equipment strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and nutrition guidelines precisely.
  • Ability to work efficiently during peak service periods while maintaining organization and cleanliness.
  • Professional communication skills with the ability to interact respectfully with guests and staff.
  • Self-motivated and dependable with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule availability to align with event schedules.
