Position Summary

The Ice Technician is a key member of the UBS Arena Ice Operations team responsible for ensuring the highest-quality ice surface and operational support for NHL games, practices, concerts, and special events. Reporting directly to the Ice Operations Manager, this role involves ice maintenance, equipment operation, and facility support while upholding the safety, efficiency, and performance standards of a world-class arena. Ice Technicians work closely with drivers, engineering staff, and event operations to deliver a flawless ice product and seamless event experience.

 

This role will pay an hourly rate of $23.00.

About the Venue

UBS Arena at Belmont Park is made for music and built for hockey. New York's newest premier entertainment and sports venue and home of the New York Islanders is developed in partnership with Oak View Group, the New York Islanders, and Jeff Wilpon. The state of the art arena opened in November 2021 and has welcomed numerous top artists including Harry Styles, Sebastian Maniscalco, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, TWICE, Eagles, John Mayer, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone. The venue delivers an unmatched live entertainment experience for guests including clear sightlines and premier acoustics.

 

UBS Arena is at the forefront of sustainability, being awarded LEED Green Building Certification in January 2023. The venue also achieved carbon neutrality for operations in Fall 2022 which made it the first arena to do so on the eastern United States seaboard. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform ice making, maintenance, and repair including edging, divot repair, patching, and crease/line touch-ups.
  • Operate and perform minor maintenance on ice resurfacers, edgers, and other ice-related equipment.
  • Assist with aspects of ice installation and removal in collaboration with the Ice Operations Manager.
  • Conduct occasional maintenance and repair of rink equipment, including, but not limited to, dasher boards, acrylic glass, safety netting, goal nets, and other equipment.
  • Support the event and operations department in providing optimal ice conditions for all events.
  • Assist the operations department with conversions between hockey and non-ice events.
  • Perform general labor tasks and other duties as assigned to support the arena and event requirements.

Qualifications

  • Certified Ice Technician (CIT) designation preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in ice maintenance, rink operations, or facility management preferred; NHL or arena experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of ice resurfacing equipment, refrigeration systems, and arena operations strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with long hours, late nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the event schedule.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., work on feet for extended periods, and perform tasks in cold environments.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures (cold and hot) for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and climb stairs/ladders for long periods.
  • Strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with teammates.
