Position Summary

In consultation with the Assistant General Manager, the Director of Operations manages, supervises, and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the complex including but not limited to maintenance, set-up/changeovers, custodial/housekeeping, landscaping/grounds keeping, equipment safety and capital projects. This position is responsible for supervision of the operations staff and overseeing the coordination of facility operation on a day-to-day basis.  This includes overall event performance to ensure the attainment of facility and company business objectivesAdditionally, coordination with construction and project managers is necessary. 

 

This role pays an annual salary of $120,000-$140,000 and is bonus eligible.

About the Venue

This position is based at our Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD) is one of the largest convention centers in the nation. Every year it welcomes over a million visitors attending major national and international conventions, meetings, concerts, athletic competitions, auto shows, and more. Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, the KBHCCD has been and continues to be a fixture in the Dallas skyline offering 1 million square feet of exhibit space, three ballrooms, 88 meeting rooms, 1,750-seat theater, and a 9,816-seat arena. The award-winning facility is connected to a 1,001-room hotel via skybridge and is adjacent to two Vertiport landing pads.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Federal, State and Local government agencies.
  • Develops program to train all employees on Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA Procedures.
  • Works closely with the Assistant General Manager-Operations and General Manager in the preparation and negotiation of Service Agreements.
  • Reviews contracts for compliance with events and/or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.
  • Develops and implement preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety and Risk Management policies in compliance with all Corporate and governmental regulations.
  • Oversees the monthly reports for the warehouse and ensure an accurate annual audit is performed of the warehouse by the Warehouse personnel.
  • Ensures the dedicated Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is up-to-date and provides accurate reports.
  • Acts as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies. AGM in implementation of any energy saving guidelines.
  • Coordinate building safety and security with Director of Security, including leadership of the safety committee as well as coordinating with corporate safety and ensuring team members have up-to-date training and information for all safety issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Manages subordinate supervisors in any of the following departments: Changeover, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Operations, Production, Engineering, Carpenters,
  • Electricians, Plumbers, Technical Services, Event Services, Public Safety, Security and/or Parking Departments.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with OVG’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from technical college with major in Management or Maintenance Engineering.
  • At least five (5) years of hands-on facility operations experience plus 2 years supervisory experience
  • Master’s degree a plus. 
  • Proven track-record of successful team-building and managing relationships with different stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Convention Center experience a plus.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for education.
  • Construction or Project Management certification a plus.
  • Management experience required.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and other technical writing as well as experience in a construction / redevelopment project is desired. 
  • Excellent organizational skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Must have exceptional communication skills with a high emphasis on customer relations and keen attention to detail required. 
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff. 
  • Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic. 
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and must be able to learn Maintenance software programs.
