Position Summary

Under direct supervision from the Assistant Director of Operations, the Operations Coordinator will perform oversight of daily operations as assigned, set-up/teardowns, groundskeeping and provide operational coverage for all scheduled events and/or performances. The PART-TIME Operations Coordinator may receive instructions from the Assistant Director of Operations or Assistant General Manager. This position will work closely with the Cotton Bowl Managers, Event Managers, F&B Managers and contracted labor staff on all events within and around the Fair Park campus. Other duties include assisting other departments as needed and the maintenance and proper use of all operational equipment within and around the Fair Park campus.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $18.00.

About the Venue

Fair Park is located 2 miles from downtown Dallas and is the largest historical landmark in Texas.  We have one of the largest nation's collections of 1930's art and architecture.  Our 277-acre campus is home to the State Fair of Texas, the iconic Cotton Bowl Stadium, Music Hall (Broadway shows, opera, musicals, etc.), the African American Museum, Children's Aquarium, Texas Discovery Gardens, Hall of State, outdoor amphitheater and up to 1,000 events each year.

Responsibilities

  • Set / strike equipment (Bike racks, barricades, tables, chairs, staging, bleachers, risers, pipe & drape, etc.) according to pre-determined floor plans for events in an efficient, timely, accurate and professional manner
  • Set / strike to include the manual movement of equipment throughout the park from storage areas to event spaces and back to storage
  • Review weekly work assignments with the Assistant Director of Operations
  • Assist staff in the set-up and tear down of a variety of equipment, including, but not limited to chairs, tables, staging, risers, trash cans, etc
  • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
  • Perform customary Housekeeping / Janitorial duties when necessary: clean floors, restrooms, furniture & equipment, walls, windows, fixtures, doors, and other areas and items throughout the campus
  • Work on preventative maintenance plans to maintain cleanliness, appearance, and safety of the park
  • Operate an assortment of equipment including forklift, high-lifts, vacuum, pressure washer and other vehicles as required
  • Work from general instructions and specifications
  • Read and interpret paperwork regarding event specifications
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, possible extended (long) workdays 
  • Assist Event Managers on all aspects of event setups including confirming layouts, equipment rentals, etc
  • Report defective equipment, facility damage, areas of the park requiring cleaning and incorrect or improper set-ups to supervisors in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with Assistant Director of Operations to continually train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff trainings, and may oversee assignments to on call/temporary Labor Workers
  • Multi-task under time constraints and with moderate to high pressure situations
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment including pick-up trucks with attached power washer, floor industrial scrubbers, and other vehicles as required
  • Help provide directions to others
  • Maintain a calm demeanor while providing corrective feedback to team members during stressful and/or time sensitive situations
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions

  • Oversee staff in operation of a wide variety of equipment including vans, pick-up trucks, forklifts, high-lifts, and other vehicles as required

  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, vendors and facility users
  • Ability to work various workdays and hours to meet business needs including early/late hours, possible long days, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be reliable and punctual
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
