Position Summary

The Senior HR Manager will serve as a strategic business partner to the leadership team and the main HR point of contact for our employees. This role is responsible for building continuity and consistent human resource practices within all departments of the assigned location. The Senior HR Manager will report into the GM, providing HR direction and HR Generalist support in the areas of employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, performance management and training. This position will oversee 2 direct reports and help support local venues in the AZ/NM market. (about 10 additional locations of varying size and seasonality)

 

The Senior HR Manager will develop and implement HR strategies aligned with OVG Hospitality and Corporate People and Culture’s business goals, ensuring the seamless execution of all HR initiatives within the arena’s fast-paced environment. This role will partner with managers to enhance their leadership skills, fostering effective team management and promoting employee engagement. Additionally, the HR Director will oversee and resolve high-volume and complex employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies while maintaining a fair and positive workplace culture. This HR role is to assess and anticipate HR-related needs, as well as communicating needs proactively with the onsite Management team and the Corporate People Operations functions.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $90,000-$115,000.

About the Venue

PHX Arena is in the heart of downtown Phoenix, home to the Phoenix Suns and Mercury professional basketball teams and a variety of special events and concerts tear round-making it the preeminent destination for sports and entertainment in the southwest.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the principal liaison between OVG’s Corporate People Operations team and the venues’ Management team, in order to facilitate a consistent and unified human resources department.
  • Main point of contact for the client, working in partnership to create memorable guest experiences through positive employee engagement.
  • Follows OVG’s human resources policies to assure compliance with legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the human resources function.
  • Strong focus on positive Employee Relations, serve as primary local investigator and liaison with Corporate HR for regulatory charges (i.e. harassment / discrimination) as directed; complete internal investigations, gather data for all state or EEOC Investigations as requested by legal counsel.
  • In partnership with onsite managers, lead a culture of proactive performance management, training managers in employee relations including timely creation, review and revision of performance improvement plans and individual development plans, written warnings, be present for suspensions and terminations for full and part time employees.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Talent Acquisition to post and hire all full-time candidates (non-union); participate in interviews, question generation, candidate tracking and making recommendations to OVG leadership.
  • Provides information and guidance related to Employee Benefits, Training and Development, Annual Review, Compliance, and Career Growth opportunities.
  • Mentor and train the HR team for future growth opportunities within OVG’s HR function.
  • Assist hiring managers with recruiting efforts as needed for part-time, seasonal, and/or hourly staff to maintain staffing levels.
  • Community Outreach contact for Workforce Development programs and proactively implementing community outreach programs to support local hiring to.
  • Process, track and respond timely to background and drug screen requests in accordance with venue and company policies.
  • Organize and process new hire, change, and termination paperwork for full and part time employee personnel files.
  • Provide training to employees (Orientation, Open Enrollment, Serv-Safe, TEAM, etc).
  • Organize and partner with department managers to complete new hire orientation and provide new employees solid company knowledge, guidance on policies and access to Company handbook(s) and resources.
  • Oversight of the Employee Engagement Committee.
  • Communicate corporate-driven health and wellness initiatives, including Benefit enrollments and follow up for new hires.
  • Acts as coordinator of Internship Program; partner with Corporate Talent Acquisition on company selection requirements and implement locally.
  • Provide support to local finance team in compiling response to regulatory requests from state or federal agencies (i.e. Employee Earning Statements, Unemployment Compensation-ADP, and Employee Verifications) and attend hearings as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential personnel issues.
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to adhere to highest standards of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local employment/labor laws and regulations.
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Solid organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks; project management skills a plus.
  • Ability to represent oneself, OVG and HR in a professional and positive manner in all situations.
  • Working knowledge of HR best practices, including industry-specific HR best practices.
  • Versed in proper office/organizational/business etiquette.
  • Minimum 5+ years as an HR Manager in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment (experience in sports/entertainment, F&B venues is a plus).
  • Strong expertise in employee relations and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach managers and drive leadership development.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor laws.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • HR Certification preferred.
  • Previous experience with Food Safety, Alcohol Management and Cash Handling training preferred.
