Position Summary

The Trades Helper assists with routine standard maintenance of trade operations such as but not limited to painting, welding, roofing, building and repairing equipment in operations,  HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and carpentry at our venue.  This position reports into the Facilities Department at Fair Park/OVG at Fair Park.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $18.24.

About the Venue

Fair Park Dallas is an award-winning and premier sports and entertainment venue just 2 miles from downtown Dallas.  We are home to the State Fair of TX, the iconic Cotton Bowl Stadium, the Music Hall, Africian American Museum, Childrens Museum, an outdoor amphitheater and much more. We host hundreds of events listing concerts, family shows, non-profit events, sporting events and more. Fair Park covers 277 acreas of event space and caters to meeting planners and event producers from all over North America.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists carpenter with pouring concrete, laying bricks and building wooden structures to meet needs of facilities
  • Assists painters in preparing and applying protective and decorative coats of paint and related material to interior and exterior of buildings and structures
  • Assists plumber in installation and repair of plumbing and fixtures to provide maintenance
  • Assists building equipment operator in operation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and heating equipment to ensure optimum operation
  • Assists electrician in repair and installation of electrical facilities and equipment to provide necessary service
  • Assists welder in repair and maintenance of various metal equipment
  • Perform maintenance on electrical systems (replace light bulbs and receptacles, etc)
  • Conduct general upkeep procedures (i.e. landscaping) and other tasks as assigned (painting, carpentry, etc)
  • Assist with necessary general repairs throughout facility concession stands on equipment including but not limited to sinks, ice machines, etc
  • May assist on automotive equipment repair needs
  • Assist with other event and operational tasks as needed to help the overall success of the park buildings
  • Duties will be assigned and change as needs arise

 

Qualifications

  • General mechanical knowledge and aptitude necessary to perform a variety of routine trades-related duties
  • Ability to learn to use hand/power tools and other equipment specific to various trades
  • Ability and willingness to perform manual labor
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while establishing an effective working relationship with all levels of management
  • vendors, general public and park officials
  • Must have availability to work long hours, nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Basic operating knowledge of Microsoft Office and email, including general computer understanding
  • Solid problem solving skills
  • Must be able to work in various types of inclement weather
