Position Summary

Under general direction, performs advanced journey level and leadwork duties in the technical operation, maintenance and repair of various HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing, and auxiliary systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of complex MEP systems in a widely dispersed building.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $28.00-$31.00.

About the Venue

University of Houston Athletics Venues includes competition venues for Football (TDECU Stadium transitioning to Space City Stadium), Basketball and Volleyball (Fertitta Center), Baseball (Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park), Softball (Cougar Softball Stadium), Track and Soccer (Carl Lewis International Complex).  Additionally, we are responsible for the Development Facilities for Football (Indoor Practce Facility and Football Operations Center - opening in July 2025), Baseball (Baseball Clubhouse), and Basketball (Guy V. Lewis Development Center). Finally the Athletic Alumni Center houses most of the administrative functions for the Athletics Department as well as support for the other Varsity Sports coaching staffs and student athletes.  We are headquartered at the Football Stadium but have responsibilities at all of the Athletics venues.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair problems within the following HVAC/R equipment systems: air handlers, package units, VRF systems, multi-zone units, steam coils, chilled water systems, self-contained heating and cooling units, exhaust systems, ice machines, walk-in freezers/coolers, pumps, air compressors, ductwork, cooling towers, refrigerant reclaiming/charging and other miscellaneous equipment
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, HVAC control components, control theory, wiring standards and electrical troubleshooting & diagnostics
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment; lubricate bearings, motors, pumps, change filters, clean coils, replace and align belts, clean condensate pans, etc.
  • Regularly monitor and adjust building automation controls to achieve optimum comfort and energy savings
  • Participate in the operation, maintenance, and repair of diverse facility equipment, electrical, lighting, commercial kitchen, drain clearing and plumbing repairs to expedite the return of equipment or systems to service
  • Willingness to perform other diverse maintenance duties as assigned
  • Perform event related duties, set-ups and coverage as assigned
  • Clearly, effectively, and timely communicate work issues with staff
  • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
  • Track daily productivity via timesheets, daily logs, and CMMS
  • Communicate arrival, location, and departure with Engineering Manager

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct trade experience in HVAC/R and controls
  • Commercial experience is desirable
  • CT D-2 license is preferred
  • Possession of Universal CFC license
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) is required
  • Experience with computerized building automation systems
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software, general computers and understanding of basic IT function
  • Ability to communicate clearly in the English language, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Must have availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
  • Solid problem-solving skills
