Position Summary

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) reports to the General Manager (GM) and oversees all day-to-day operations at the venue including direct oversight of the following departments: av/broadcast, engineering, event management, groundskeeping/field management, information technology, and operations. Assists in providing overall administrative planning, direction, policies to staff, assuring the highest quality service program to assure booking and rebooking of events. The AGM ensures an effective and cost-efficient program by controlling the venue operating budget as well as providing highly responsible staff assistance and management to the GM.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $150,000-$180,000 and is bonus eligible.

About the Venue

Snapdragon Stadium is a 35,000-seat multipurpose venue that serves as the home for San Diego State University football, San Diego FC (MLS), San Diego Wave FC (NWSL), major concerts and festivals, college and professional sports, motorsports, international soccer, entertainment events and private special events. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the GM in planning, directing, and managing the day-to-day operations of the stadium, including direct oversight of the following departments: av/broadcast, engineering, event management, groundskeeping/field management, information technology, and operations. AGM also assists the GM with oversight of the following departments: booking, box office, finance, guest experience, security, and special events.
  • Maintains active contact with the Client/Contract Administrator. Monitors Oak View Group’s compliance with all provisions of the management contract.
  • Actively promotes the use of the facility to maximize its utilization.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the Client/Contract Administrator, tenants, government departments and agencies, entertainment industry, community, and civic organizations to encourage continual and regular use of the facility.
  • Assures the coordination, implementation and administration of specific plans and programs prescribed by corporate directives, to include matters of training and development; quality assurance; energy efficiency; safety/emergency procedures, crowd control and crisis management procedures, or other areas as needed.
  • Develops and implements facility goals in accordance with the management contract, the Client’s objectives, corporate policy, and good business practice.
  • Prepares and maintains required and necessary reports/records for the Client/Contract Administrator and for the Corporate Office.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs all activities and personnel engaged in maintaining and operating the facility.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints.
  • Conduct periodic team meetings to discuss procedures, issues, and policy changes.
  • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of RFP’s and service agreements as needed.
  • Review agreements for compliance with client requirements.
  • Assists and coordinates with the development of the annual operating calendar, activity schedules, projections for attendance and/or revenue.
  • Assist the GM in the development and administration of the facility’s operating and capital budgets.
  • Work directly with the department directors in developing departmental operating budgets and revenue projections.
  • Recruit, select, lead, motivate and evaluate director level staff; provide or coordinate training as needed; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Work with the departmental leaders in the day-to-day management of their various departmental disciplines; review and evaluate processes and results; identify and resolve deficiencies and challenges.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Develop and implement programs, policies, and procedures for the Stadium.
  • Assist the GM in the oversight of the facility’s contract service partners (Janitorial, Security, Parking, etc.).
  • Develop or direct the development and preparation of comprehensive management reports and manuals (i.e., Operations Manual, Production Manual, Annual Preventative Maintenance Plan, Fire / Life Safety, etc).
  • Participate and lead various interdepartmental project groups, special projects, and task forces.
  • Conduct a variety of organizational studies, investigations, and operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
  • Represent the GM as needed at various meetings.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, facility stakeholders and facility users.
  • Provide an extremely high level of customer service at all times.
  • Oversees overall daily operation and maintenance of the stadium and all systems; includes HVAC, sound, lighting, scoreboards/videoboards, fire protection, life safety, workplace safety and others.
  • Direct daily interaction with client, venue staff and key stakeholders.
  • Develop employee engagement programs, culture-building programs, and continued training.
  • Assists with booking the venue and developing new streams of business.
  • Assists with advancing and communicating event information to the appropriate departments and staff.
  • Oversee the conversion of the stadium from one event use to the next.
  • Administers and negotiate contracts with outside vendors including pest control, HVAC, scoreboard systems and other services.
  • Responsible for health & safety compliance.
  • Meets with GM on a regular basis to discuss all matters pertaining to day-to-day operations and events as required.
  • Maintain hazardous materials communications program, and material safety data sheets; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Serve as Executive-on-Duty for events as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college or university in Business/Hospitality Management/Sports Management or related field.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a Stadium or Arena or similar public assembly facility, with at least three (3) years of experience at a senior level position (Director/AGM/GM) or similar role.
  • Experience working with higher education and collegiate athletics preferred.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft office applications, spreadsheets, presentation, and CAD software.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of events.
  • Ability to identify the needs of users and clients of the stadium.
  • Knowledge of crowd management and control techniques.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision and training.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Event License Agreements.
  • Knowledge of local and state fire and public safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of AV, HVAC, Scoreboard, and related systems in venues.
  • Experience with budget preparation and control.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, ADA, and other employment regulations.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, grounds keeping.
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly through both oral and written communication.
  • Effectively work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, professional, and courteous manner which fosters a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to make sound business/operations decisions quickly and under pressure.
