Position Summary

The Ice Rink Manager is responsible for overseeing the staff and ice usage. This includes, but is not limited to: managing rink schedules, skate sharpening and repair, skate rentals, league management and on-ice programming/instructions. The Rink Manager provides leadership and initiative in developing, maximizing and maintaining ice sales and programming. This is balanced with a strong customer service ability, team leadership and business acumen.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $55,000 to $65,000 and is bonus eligible.

About the Venue

Coral Ridge Ice Arena is a community ice rink, offering a variety of skating classes and camps, and is additionally the home of the Hawkeye Skating Club, ICH Youth Hockey, University of Iowa Men’s and Women’s Club Hockey Teams and the practice facility for the ECHL Iowa Heartlanders. The related facility, Xtream Arena and GreenState Family Fieldhouse is owned by the community development corporation ArenaCo and managed by OVG 360.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the use of the ice with local groups ranging from open state to professional level hockey.
  • Books and oversee overall rental and ice use schedules including tournaments, group ice rentals and birthday parties using sound financial management and marketing strategies.
  • Manage subordinate supervisors and managers where responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Works closely with hockey and skating associations, scheduling ice usage and making necessary arrangements for the personnel, equipment and materials to be on hand.
  • Responsible for always promoting and representing facility in a positive manner.
  • Investigate, analyze and resolve operational problems and complaints.
  • Conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems and policy changes.
  • Develop operating procedures that conform to corporate standards, customize them to the specific needs of the facility and consistent with the goals and objectives of the client and facility.
  • Maintains records of activities and programs, completing reports and making recommendations for improvement to programmingCoordinates repairs and preventative maintenance on rink equipment with the assistance of the Director of Operations and Ice Operations Manager.
  • Responsible for development, implementation, delivery and achievement of the annual operating budget.
  • Responsible for assisting the Director of Operations and General Manager with capital planning.
  • Creates monthly program schedule calendars.
  • Manage scheduling and payroll for all direct reports, including submission of all relevant action forms to the Director of Finance.
  • Create and enforce all ice rental contracts.
  • Works closely with the Director of Finance to ensure the Accounts Receivable process is managed, payments are processed, and deposits are made timely with any discrepancies reconciled.
  • Participates in management and company staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  • Responds to and troubleshoots issues outside of regular working hours.
  • Ensure customer inquiries regarding ice rates and availability are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Schedules ongoing rental skate sharpening and repairs.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of staff with safety/first aid/CPR/bloodborne pathogens training per facility policy.
  • Oversees cash register, float, and verify the change safe balance daily.
  • Compiles monthly attendance figures and other reporting to submit to the Director of Finance.
  • Works with Ice Operations Manager to build and maintaining ice which includes using an ice resurfacer and all other equipment necessary to maintain the highest quality sheet of ice.
  • Works with Director of Marketing on website maintenance and social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School or vocational diploma required, BA Degree desired, plus 3-5 years of previous work history can substitute for degree.
  • Experience with and general functions of an Ice Arena.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, with emphasis in working with and training a “casual” staff.
  • Must be able to work flexible and sometimes demanding schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Audio/Video and Information Technology Systems, Ice systems, and basic computer skills.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Ice and Ice making systems.
