Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Utility Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for the operation, and maintenance of infrastructure critical to our facilities. The Utility Engineer will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, optimize system performance, and support sustainability initiatives.

 

This role pays an hourly wage of $34.19 to $35.21

 

Benefits as per the union agreement.

 

This position will remain open until June 6, 2025. 

About the Venue

The Santa Clara Convention Center is proudly owned by The City of Santa Clara and managed by Oak View Group. We are strategically located in the heart of Silicon Valley, a prime location for conventions, trade shows and exhibitions. The Santa Clara Convention Center is minutes from hotels, restaurants, Levi’s Stadium, California’s Great America Theme Park, and many of the largest and most influential technology companies in the world, with easy access to freeways and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport and only 45 miles south of San Francisco. The Convention Center features 100,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 22,400 square foot ballroom, 31 breakout rooms and a 607-seat theater and attracts over 350,000 visitors annually. The facility is an integral economic component of Santa Clara, generating economic benefits through attendee direct and indirect spending and sustaining over 500 local jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and installs minor equipment such as shelves, cabinets, desks, and chairs.
  • Replaces acoustical ceiling tile as required.
  • Unstops toilets as required if a plunger is sufficient. Does not repair the same or use augers, snakes, or chemicals.
  • Replaces washers in sink faucets and shower valves with stop valves only.
  • Cleans light fixtures, relamps light fixtures, changes lenses.
  • Changes air filters and cleans coils, grills, and convectors.
  • Cleans and paints equipment in the mechanical room and assigned areas.
  • Makes minor furniture repairs.
  • Delivers tools and materials to job sites as required.
  • Assists Stationary Engineers in pulling, pushing, lifting, or holding equipment and material in place while the Stationary Engineer performs work.
  • Performs all other similar clean, repair, and maintenance duties.
  • Performs other similar duties as required by the Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer.

Qualifications

 

  • Two (2) or more years of education and or full time work experience in the operation, maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have availability to work long hours, nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) preferred
  • Must join Stationary Engineers Local 39
