Position Summary

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager plans, directs, and manages all aspects of financial, accounting, purchasing, billings and internal control functions for the management team at the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre by performing general accounting/accounts receivable/accounts payable/budgeting and financial reconciliation activities.

 

This position reports to the General Manager of the Plaza Theatre and or the VP of Finance.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $37 to $40.

This position will remain open until May 9, 2025.

About the Venue

Coming in 2025; once restored, the Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs will be the only place available for the entire community to come together and utilize it as an affordable community venue showcasing diverse programming for all people, local youth organizations, promoting multicultural programming in film, music, live theater, education, comedy, and entertainment for all. It will also support and serve nonprofit organizations like the Palm Springs International Film Festival, ONE-PS, the Jessie O. James Desert Highland Unity Center, LGBTQ+ organizations, Arts groups, modernism-related events, our senior population, and many others.The Plaza Theatre has an impressive role in the history of Palm Springs. The theatre’s iconic identity was established on its opening to the public in 1936 with the world premiere of the Oscar-winning George Cukor film, Camille, with its legendary star, Greta Garbo, who allegedly slipped into the back of the theatre after the lights went down. In addition to being a movie theatre, it was also the venue for nationally-broadcast radio theatre programs by such luminaries as Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, and Amos ‘n’ Andy.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as point person for all event related items including but not limited to event revenue, event expenses, promoter point of contact, event settlements, flash reports, P&L, and any other event related items
  • Responsible for event settlements night of the event
  • Create, finalize and distribute event flash reports within 24-48 hours of the event
  • Generate forecasts
  • Create and post event journal
  • Compare the actuals event P&L vs budget
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations
  • Lead other special projects as requested by leadership
  • Participates in other duties and special projects as assigned
  • May require extensive walking through the building, exposure to loud noises, climbing of stairs, and working in normal office conditions; This position works during events which are nighttime; weekends and holidays.
  • Perform all general accounting functions including cash management, general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Oversee Box Office cash handling procedures and verify bank statements against daily deposits.
  • Perform bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare event settlements and generate account transfers or check payments.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements.
  • Prepare annual budgets and financial reporting.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, public or business administration or a related field required; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of Arena/Hotel/Convention Center accounting experience required.
  • May require working beyond normal business hours, including nights, weekends and holidays based on event calendar.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work well with all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of NetSuite preferred, or similar accounting software.
  • Prior supervisory responsibility preferred.
  • Experience analyzing data for accuracy
  • Superior Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly, open to change and enjoy the challenge of unfamiliar tasks
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and ambiguous environment; handle multiple tasks with the ability to re-prioritize and shift priorities quickly
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, get messages across that have the desired effect

 

Computer Skills:

 

Proficient in Microsoft Office platforms, accounting and budgeting software, as well as Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of Banquet Event Order (BEO) or other event management programs i.e. CAD
