Position Summary

Responsibilities include enforcing fire regulations and patrolling assigned area for fire violations.  Responds to all fire calls, fire alarms and medical emergencies within an assigned facility.

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $26.07.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year. 

Responsibilities

  • Assists throughout any McCormick Place facility in the event of a fire or other emergency.
  • Maintains two-way radio contact with Security Control Center and Supervisor/Manager as needed.
  • Inspects events for compliance with CFD reviewed floorplans and accessible emergency exits and firefighting equipment.
  • Inspects individual exhibits for non-combustible construction, flammable or hazardous products, improper storage, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and adequate stairways.
  • Inspects other areas for adequate fire lanes, proper crate storage, accessible and functional fire doors, compliance with occupancy standards and elimination of trash buildups.
  • Investigates all calls pertaining to dangerous situations.
  • Observes the handling of fuels/dangerous chemicals.
  • Performs inspections of fire hose cabinets and other equipment.
  • Maintains fire patrol scooters and golf carts and clean whenever needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of in-house fire alarm and sprinklers system operations.
  • Checks MSDS Sheets and Hazmat Guides on questionable chemicals.
  • Documents responses and inspections in building logbook and other forms.
  • Effectively and cordially communicates with staff and customers at all times.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two active years with an official Fire Department preferred.
  • Must have a demonstrated, strong working knowledge of fire prevention, and fire protection systems.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills as well as effective writing skills.
  • At a minimum, must be a Certified Firefighter II.
  • Must have a current EMT license (minimum of EMT-B licensure).
  • Must be CPR/AED certified
  • Must have a current and valid Driver’s License

Physical requirements include the ability to communicate verbally and to be able to move around facility. Position requires step climbing, walking, and sometimes running; may be subject to physical confrontations; indoor and outdoor working conditions; irregular hours. Must be physically able to perform all tasks related, including walking for most of the shift.
