Position Summary

Utilizing independent judgment, the Safety & Security Manager directs, manages, supervises and coordinates the activities and operations of the Security Department and Guest Services staffing program for the facility. Serves as facility Safety Officer. Establishes and maintains relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement and life safety units. Provides highly responsible staff assistance to the Director of Operations.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $70,000 to $80,000.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall management for all services and activities involved in facility and event security, facility admissions, and emergency preparedness
  • Plan, develop and implement programs to ensure the security and safety of facility staff, users, guests and property
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; identify opportunities for improvements and review with the Director of Operations; implement improvements
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate Security staff and Guest Services staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for the Security Department and all other assigned programs and functions; meet with staff on a regular basis to identify and resolve challenges; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures
  • Assist the Event Managers in the development of event specific security and staffing plans
  • Coordinate the scheduling of external event staffing personnel including, but not limited to, off duty police officers, Fire Marshal, EMT’s, peer group security as needed
  • Manage and participate in the development and administration of the Security Department annual budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, training, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
  • Develop and facilitate a safety committee, focused on work place safety and facility emergency preparedness
  • Provide effective direction to staff in emergency response situations
  • Monitor and maintain the facility’s computerized security monitoring system
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state and Federal law enforcement and life safety agencies
  • Prepare and present regular staff reports and other related correspondence
  • Conduct a variety of industry operational studies; recommend modifications to security and safety programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

 

Knowledge Of:

  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of public assembly facility security and safety programs
  • Crowd management and control techniques
  • Principles of supervision and training
  • Personnel management as well as EEOC, FLSA, OSHA and ADA issues
  • Fire and public safety regulations
  • Relevant federal, state, and local regulations
  • Terminology used in entertainment and convention settings
  • Principles of budget preparation and control
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, and internet software; experience in using the Lenel Security System (or other security monitoring system) is preferred

Ability To:

  • Develop comprehensive event staffing plans
  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans for a large public assembly facility
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates
  • Provide leadership for Security personnel
  • Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational objectives
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors and facility users as well as local, state and federal law enforcement and life safety agencies
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended numbers of days

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible security experience in a public assembly facility or law enforcement agency including at least two (2) years of supervisory responsibility

Education / Training:

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, business administration or other related field
  • Additional experience may be substituted for formal education

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a current AED certificate
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a Kansas or Missouri driver’s license
