Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Tsongas Center and LeLacheur Park. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and more. The technician will also assist in coordinating larger repair projects and maintaining the overall functionality of the facilities. This is an essential role for ensuring a safe, well-maintained environment for both event staff and guests.

This role will pay a Hourly salary of $31 to $33.50.

About the Venue

The Venue Management division of Oak View Group has an exciting opening for an Maintenance Technician  on the campus of UMass Lowell (UML) for the Tsongas Center, a 7,000 seat multi-purpose arena and LeLacheur Park, a 5,000 seat baseball stadium. The Tsongas Center and LeLacheur Park are is two of the premier arenas in the New England region.  The Tsongas Center home to UML Division I Men’s Ice Hockey, Men’s and Women’s basketball programs, PWHL's Boston Fleet, Massachusetts Pirates Football as well as a variety of events including concerts, family shows, comedy, and other live events. The Tsongas Center serves as a public venue to the community and has been a staple of the region for the past 26 years. Additionally, this position supports the operations for LeLacheur Park, home of the UMass Lowell River Hawks baseball team and host to many area high school and local baseball games.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for all services and activities involved in the maintenance and operations of Tsongas Center and LeLacheur Park, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, chillers, refrigeration, ice-making, boilers, and other associated equipment.
  • Perform daily inspections and preventative maintenance tasks. Support LeLacheur Park Managers and Tsongas Center Director of Operations in executing scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure systems are properly maintained and functioning.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other system failures. Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems (e.g., light bulbs, outlets, and other components).
  • Maintain the physical appearance and functionality of the facility through minor carpentry, painting, landscaping, and other general maintenance tasks.
  • Provide maintenance support during events, addressing issues such as equipment malfunctions in concession stands, restrooms, and public areas.
  • Safely operate forklifts for moving equipment, materials, and supplies as needed.
  • Identify larger-scale repairs or upgrades, and assist in coordinating with third-party contractors for more complex projects.
  • Assist with the administration of the maintenance budget. Forecast funds required for equipment, materials, and supplies. Ensure appropriate inventory management for maintenance needs.
  • Stay informed about relevant federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring compliance with maintenance-related standards, including OSHA and safety protocols.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance issues during events or operational hours, minimizing disruptions and ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Support other operational and event-related tasks as needed to ensure the overall success of the venues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree or technical certifications preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience in facility maintenance, with expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and other mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with maintenance tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and forklifts.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Universal CFC license
    • Massachusetts Electrical License
    • Experience with computerized building automation systems (BAS).
    • Experience working in sports, entertainment, or public venue maintenance.
    • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations.
    • Ability to safely operate a forklift and other heavy equipment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and general IT functions.
    • Basic knowledge of facility management software or building automation systems.
