Position Summary

The Director of Security and Event Staffing oversess all event staffing within Chartway Arena and S.B. Ballard Stadium. This position is responsible for servicing, promoting, and providing positive guest experiences for all events.  The position reports directly to the Assistant General Manager. A qualified candidate will bring a collaborative approach and deep understanding of venue and event secuirty, guest services and customer experience to the role. This position will manage the guest services team and security team, in-house and third party or both, while frequently interacting with guests, fans and clients. This individual will also work directly with all departments to provide a best-in-class customer experience for all events and daily operations. This is a guest facing role so excellent communication skills are necessary to deliver a memorable experience to a diverse group of guests/clients in the youth, amateur/collegiate, professional, and special events space. 

 

This role will pay a yearly salary of $60,000 and is bonus eligible.

About the Venue

Chartway Arena is a 9,100-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Old Dominion University. Operated by OVG360 since it opened in 2002, Chartway Arena is known as one of the premier mid-sized collegiate venues in the country.  Chartway Arena is home to Old Dominion Monarch Men's and Women's basketball, as well as concerts, family shows and other attractions for the Hampton Roads area. Responsibilities

  • Lead Chartway Arena and SB Ballard stadium event staffing and security teams at all events including managing a staff of more than 150+ employees. 
  • Responsible for hiring, scheduling, and supervising of all event and security staff, including premium levels and all spaces at Chartway Arena and SB Ballard Stadium.
  • Oversee pre-event planning and staff training. 
  • Responsible for negoating and oversight of all 3rd party security or staffing contracts.
  • Develop and implement security plans for Chartway Arena.
  • Create staffing plans for all events at Chartway Arena and football games at SB Ballard Stadium.
  • Point of contact and advance person for all event security needs with tour secuirty and/or tour manager.
  • Attend industry conferences and stay up to date on secuirty protcols. 
  • Actively monitor team member interactions with guests and premium clients during events. 
  • Serve as Security / Guest Services Manager on Duty as required.
  • Maintain and update department documentation and files.
  • Coordinate department orientation and training events. 
  • Monitor and document team member attendance and administer appropriate disciplinary documentation. 
  • Conduct supply inventory at Guest Service locations and replenishes as needed. 
  • Lead department’s pre-event briefing. 
  • Respond to guests incidents and provide a realtime leadership response.
  • Document all incidents and create action plans for responses.
  • Follow up on guest comments via email or phone and takes appropriate action. 
  • Creates and distributes event summary info sheet with all relevant guest experience and event details.
  • Administering appropriate disciplinary documents as needed to ensure compliance of company/department policies. 
  • Lead Guest Experience and/or Ticketing teams, in resolving ticketing issues.
  • Serve as escalation point of contact for guest concerns. 
  • Ensures lost & found items turned in to Guest Services are logged and accurately submitted to 24/7 database.
  • Oversee venues ADA requests.
  • Proactively provides excellent customer service to external and internal guests. 
  • Ensure all guest facing areas are show ready prior to doors opening to public.
  • Monitor team member rest/meal periods and that they are taken at designated times.  
  • Assist in ensuring a safe orderly ingress/egress process for guests. 
  • Respond to guest questions and issues in a timely manner.
  • Always represent the company in a positive professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • A minimum of (5-7) five years of related work experience. Previous experience overseeing security and staffing in a stadium, arena, or at large events is a must.  
  • Crowd management certification is required.
  • Minimum of (5-7) five years of management or supervision overseeing a large staff (100+ employees).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and perform under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able and willing to adapt to change in daily duties corresponding to each event’s needs.
  • Able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the arena throughout a shift, stand or remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Possess a positive attitude and strong ability to work well with co-workers and supervisors in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, zoom, and Teams meetings.
  • Possess high degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • As a condition of employment, the employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and unusual working hours as required.
