Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Technology Services will plan and manage the activities of the administrative network team, as well as oversee the selection, integration, and performance of all administrative technology products. Provides support, guidance, and resolution for all facility LAN and WAN network infrastructure.

 

This role will pay a salary of $95,000 to $120,000.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the hiring manager for the administrative network team.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the administrative network team to include managing all maintenance of network infrastructure in a status that fully meets the administrative and event capacity and performance requirements.
  • Works with Director of Technology Services to forecast future needs or opportunities for enhancements in the equipment and software and necessary refreshes and capital investment in the network infrastructure. Writes specifications for related bid or proposal processes.
  • Manages all facets of the facility infrastructure, including but not limited to routing, switching, firewalls, system maintenance, updates, upgrades, local servers, telecom, hardware, software, personal technology, etc.
  • Assists in best practice management and implementation of all LAN infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and UPS devices, as well as offering guidance and mentoring to administrative and event related technicians.
  • Ensures that all networks are maintained and up to date with the latest security recommendations.
  • Responsible for maintaining support contracts and ensuring that all administrative and event-related infrastructure, where applicable, is covered, offering recommendations to the Director of Technology Services as needed.
  • Responsible for supervising, and developing all administrative related Technology Services personnel, including overseeing operation of the administrative network Help Desk.
  • Assists all teams within the Technology Services department as needed, at the discretion of the Director of Technology.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of Information Technology experience with 3 years minimum management experience
  • A degree in information technology or a computer science field, along with a good knowledge of networking protocols and services such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
  • The ability to be a self-starter, handle multiple tasks, and meet firm deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and relation skills.
  • Strong experience with operational, administrative, and capital budgeting.
  • Ability and willingness to work a varied event and deadline driven schedule.
