Position Summary

The Restaurant Counter is esponsible for providing fast, efficient and friendly service at all times, while providing seamless service to our guests. The Restaurant Counter sets visual displays and prepares, packs, and serves food items to guests; and supports other counter functions to ensure the efficient and effective flow of counter operations.

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $25.27. 

 

This is an UNION position.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with guest by greeting and thanking guests in addition to anticipating their wants and/or needs to ensure a pleasant dining experience.
  • Maintains a positive and friendly attitude towards customers and fellow employees.
  • Responsible for opening/closing counter-service restaurants. Stock up necessary supplies or prepared food for service; setting up displays. Organize work area to create greatest efficiency and keep work area organized and clean.
  • Maintain high pace while preparing and serving food in a high-volume restaurant location.
  • Clean-up after shift is over. Properly store and date food in correct and allotted areas.
  • Follow outlined recipes and plating guidelines to provide consistent product.
  • Adhere to established health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Report all observations of damaged/dangerous equipment. Attend food safety/sanitation training and practice those techniques.
  • Take direction from outlet managers/supervisors/leads. Demonstrate teamwork and cooperation with co-workers. 
  • Understands and effectively communicates OVG concepts, our philosophies and is able to relate to our diverse population of guests.
  • Maintains work area throughout service day by keeping it clean, neat and orderly.
  • Notifies Leads/Managers regarding guest’s complaints and concerns.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Educational Requirement

  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED
  • Must have sufficient math ability to accurately add, subtract, divide, multiply and perform other basic business math calculations and pass basic math skills test.
  • Must speak, be able to read and understand English well enough to converse with customers,
  • supervisor’s and employees.
  • Understand written and oral direction and communicate effectively with others.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess good organizational skills.
  • Must have ability to follow directions and effectively perform the work.
  • Ability to work closely with others.
  • Memorize products sold within the Food and Beverage locations.
  • Must have a pleasant personality and adhere to Uniform Standards policy.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 (one) year food and beverage restaurant experience required.
  • Able to learn/understand the importance of personal hygiene, safe food handling practices, and basic culinary skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work various shifts and hours to include holidays and weekends.

While performing the duties of this job, one must have the physical ability to maneuver around McCormick Place at times.  The employee may be regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
