Position Summary

The Security Manager is responsible for overseeing the safety and security of the convention center, ensuring a safe environment for guests, staff, and vendors. This position will manage all security personnel, procedures, and equipment, as well as develop and implement security protocols to prevent and address potential risks.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $18 to $21.

About the Venue

Located in historic downtown Provo, Utah the Utah Valley Convention Center opened its doors in 2012 as the premiere meeting space in Utah County. The UVCC boasts the perfect blend of modern architecture, flexible meeting space, and breathtaking interior and exterior views of the nearby Wasatch Mountains. This combined with its functional floor plan makes it the perfect venue to host any event.

Responsibilities

- Manage Security Operations: Oversee all security-related functions, including the deployment of security staff, managing access control, and monitoring security systems (cameras, alarms, etc.).

- Develop Security Plans: Create and implement comprehensive security plans for events, including risk assessments, crowd management strategies, and emergency response procedures.

- Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, and manage a team of security personnel. Ensure that all staff are properly trained in safety protocols and emergency procedures.

- Event Coordination: Collaborate with event organizers, facility management, and local law enforcement to ensure that security measures meet the needs of each event.

- Incident Management: Respond to security incidents and emergencies, ensuring proper documentation and reporting. Conduct investigations into any security breaches or incidents.

- Policy Development: Establish and enforce security policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment.

- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with third-party security service providers when necessary.

- Compliance: Ensure that the security team is compliant with all local, state, and federal laws, as well as convention center policies.

- Budget Management: Assist in the development of the security department budget, including staffing, equipment procurement, and operational costs.

- Emergency Preparedness: Assist in the creation and implemention emergency evacuation plans and coordinate with the fire department, police, internal departments, and tenants during critical incidents.

Qualifications

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field preferred.

- 2+ years of security management experience, preferably in a large venue or convention center setting.

- Strong knowledge of security protocols, access control, and emergency management procedures.

- Excellent leadership and communication skills.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond effectively to emergency situations.

- Familiarity with security technologies, such as CCTV, alarms, and access control systems.

- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
