Position Summary

The Concessions Cook is responsible for preparing food for concessions stands.  The Cook is responsible for ensuring quality of food and cleanliness of the kitchens basked on health and safety standards.

 

This role will pay an hourly rate between $15.00.

About the Venue

A state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility, the Thomas M. Ryan Center, located on the University of Rhode Island campus in scenic South County, opened its doors in June 2002. Home to URI Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs, the Ryan Center also features the URI football teams' locker room, along with athletic department offices, training rooms, players' lounges and a souvenir store. The venue seats 8,000 for basketball, and over 6,300 for concerts, family shows, lectures and other community events.The Ryan Center was designed and built to meet all ADA specifications to accommodate our guests with disabilities. Located in Kingston, the Center draws on an audience of over 1.4 million people within a 40-mile radius.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cooking and packaging food product which is prepared to order or kept warm until sold.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality and production standards on all menu items. Food must be fresh and of high quality when served to the guests.
  • Responsible for portion control and serving temperatures of all products served in the concession stand.\
  • Responsible for cleaning, stocking and restocking of workstations and displays.
  • Responsible for operating large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, fryolators, steamers and ovens.
  • Know and understand the products being served.
  • Ensures that all work areas and equipment are clean, food products are properly stored, utensils are clean and put away and floor is swept and mopped at end of shift. Staff must check out with Direct supervisor and/or management to ensure the concession stand meets cleanliness standards.
  • Maintains sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas.
  • Any setup/breakdown required

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.

  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event drive environment.

  • Must show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance.

  • If not already certified, you must be willing to take Servsafe Alcohol training within 15 days of date of hire (at our expense).

  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to work independently and as a productive member of a team

  • Capable of working a flexible schedule and extended hours, including but not limited to working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Schedule is event based and must be available for 90% of scheduled events, as well as some mandatory shifts.

  • Must be able to work in a loud noise environment at times

  • Must be over 18 years old as of date of hire.

  • Proven ability to work well with all levels of management

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Capable of working a flexible schedule and extended hours, including but not limited to working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Schedule is event based and must be available for 90% of scheduled events, as well as some mandatory shifts.
