Overview

The Banquet Captain coordinates and oversees the entire banquet and concessions functions to ensure proper execution and ensure guest satisfaction.

 

This position requires the ability to work weekdays and weekends, with availability for some mornings, noon, and evenings shifts on an on-call/event based schedule. 

 

This role will pay a wage within the range of $20 to $22 per hour.

About the Venue

The Palm Beach County Convention Center is a multi-purpose facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, managed by the Oak View Group. The Center features a 100,000 square-foot exhibit hall, a 22,000 square-foot ballroom and 21,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, as well as connecting to the 400-room Hilton West Palm Beach.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews assigned banquet staff assignments before functions. Responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of all servers and bartenders. 
  • Conducts pre-banquet meetings with staff to: ensure appearance and hygiene standards are being met; assign stations and partners; and review banquet event orders.
  • Communicates with the Executive Chef / Kitchen Manager / Event Supervisors/Managers to ensure that all details have been planned for and met. Ensures that changes and further instructions are made in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that appropriate quantities of china, glassware, silverware, linens, and other items are available for upcoming events. Secure requisitions for those items not available in inventory.
  • Checks room set-up prior to event and meets with Supervisors and Managers to confirm quantities of food items and timing of food leaving the kitchen.
  • Ensures proper handling of all equipment (i.e. china, glassware, silverware, linen, and props) and their proper storage after use.
  • Conducts random audits during functions to evaluate food and service. Ensures that: food is served at appropriate temperature; food is placed properly on the table; sufficient food is available; and up sell opportunities are met.
  • Regularly reviews banquet schedule for changes, calendar of events, and special events.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Participates as a team player with specific responsibilities as related to preparation, excellent service and delivery of product.
  • Has an active State Food Handlers Certification, and actively updates as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work weekdays and weekends, with availability for some mornings, noon, and evenings shifts. 
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
