Overview

Under general direction, performs advanced journey level and leadwork duties in the technical operation, maintenance and repair of various HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing, and auxiliary systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of complex MEP systems in a widely dispersed building environment.  Multiple buildings and multiple systems under this postion and will learn many of them as the candidate developes.  Maintenance tasks assigned through Micromain work order system.

 

This role will pay a wage of $24.00 to $26.00.

About the Venue

All University of Houston Athletic Venues fall under the responsibiity of OVG.  These include TDECU Stadium (Football), Fertitta Center (Basketball), Schroeder Park (Basebal) as well as the new Baseball Club House, Cougar Softball Stadium, Athletic Alumni Center, Guy V Lewis Development Center, Indoor Practice Facility and the Soccer, Track and Tennis venues.  We oversee Offices as well as competition venues and continually attempt to be responive to concerns as well as proactively complete our preventative maintenance duties. 

HVAC includes chillers, air handlers, controls, split units, as well as coordinating with the University central plant for some buildings that are on the chilled water and steam loops. 

More construction is under wat which will add over 150,000 sq feet to the footprint with a Football Operations Center scheduled to open in Fall of 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair problems within the following HVAC/R equipment systems: air handlers, package units, VRF systems, multi-zone units, steam coils, chilled water systems, self-contained heating and cooling units, exhaust systems, ice machines, walk-in freezers/coolers, pumps, air compressors, ductwork, cooling towers, refrigerant reclaiming/charging and other miscellaneous equipment
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, HVAC control components, control theory, wiring standards and electrical troubleshooting & diagnostics
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment; lubricate bearings, motors, pumps, change filters, clean coils, replace and align belts, clean condensate pans, etc.
  • Regularly monitor and adjust building automation controls to achieve optimum comfort and energy savings
  • Participate in the operation, maintenance, and repair of diverse facility equipment, electrical, lighting, commercial kitchen, drain clearing and plumbing repairs to expedite the return of equipment or systems to service
  • Willingness to perform other diverse maintenance duties as assigned
  • Perform event related duties, set-ups and coverage as assigned
  • Clearly, effectively, and timely communicate work issues with staff
  • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
  • Track daily productivity via timesheets, daily logs, and CMMS
  • Communicate arrival, location, and departure with Engineering Manager

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct trade experience in HVAC/R and controls
  • Commercial experience is desirable
  • CT D-2 license is preferred
  • Possession of Universal CFC license
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) is required
  • Experience with computerized building automation systems
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software, general computers and understanding of basic IT function
  • Ability to communicate clearly in the English language, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Must have availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
  • Solid problem-solving skills
