Overview

The Human Resource Intern will work within the HR department, reporting directly to the HR Manager who is responsible for building continuity and consistent human resource practices within all departments at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.  The HR Intern will observe and provide support in the areas of employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, and performance management as needed.  The Human Resource Intern will further observe calls and communication with Corporate Human Resources to learn about regulatory and company policy compliance, leadership and implementation of other company initiatives.

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $19.00.

This position is based at our Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD) is one of the largest convention centers in the nation. Every year it welcomes over a million visitors attending major national and international conventions, meetings, concerts, athletic competitions, auto shows, and more. Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, the KBHCCD has been and continues to be a fixture in the Dallas skyline offering 1 million square feet of exhibit space, three ballrooms, 88 meeting rooms, 1,750-seat theater, and a 9,816-seat arena. The award-winning facility is connected to a 1,001-room hotel via skybridge and is adjacent to two Vertiport landing pads. Responsibilities

  • Provide support for implementation and communication of initiatives and updates from Corporate HR or the building HR team.
  • Under the guidance of the HR Manager, interact with payroll and benefit teams to learn processes.
  • Attend meetings with HR Manager, and other members of management as needed throughout
    the course of the internship.
  • Provide assistance to HR Manager in project management activities related to implementation of HR processes and best practices.
  • Create and update Standard Operating Procedure documents for ongoing or new procedures as needed.
  • Review building practices and processes, provide analysis and recommend improvements. Ensure facility compliance with personnel policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Open to COLLEGE juniors, seniors and grad students seeking an internship to gain experience in the field of HR or seeking to gain college credit.
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Housing/transportation are the student’s responsibility.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong focus on detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as database experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Multilingual in Spanish a plus
  • Flexible Hours / On-site Work Environment
  • Special Characteristics / Knowledge:
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational ability.
  •  Ability to maintain highly confidential information is required.
  • Pro-active approach to accomplishing tasks.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications, accounting systems software and internet applications

  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
