Overview

The Operations Intern works closely with department leadership on a variety of projects, assigned tasks and shadowing as directed with training emphasis in the areas of facility management, employee oversight, event set-up, event teardown, budgeting, and event management as it relates to the Operations Department.  Some additional shadowing in the areas of Operations Administration, Engineering and I.T/Production may be available as time / availability allows.  This temporary opportunity provides the intern exposure to the day-to-day operations and projects necessary to manage a large event facility. The employee should be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights and weekends as their schedule allows.  

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $12.00.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow with Operations Supervisors on day-to-day facility management before, during and after an events
  • Work on assigned tasks / projects as it relates to day-to-day facility management including, but limited to, event set-up, event management, event teardown, and Arena / Convention Center conversions
  • Provide basic task direction to a small group of employees as directed creating a teamwork atmosphere
  • Learn about the employee scheduling process for a large team of hourly and temporary staff
  • Exposure to department forecasting and the Operation’s budget log.
  • Learn about developing a capital expenditure budget; how to submit a Request for Proposal (RFP); receive bids and see projects through to completion.
  • Attend weekly meetings as directed in Operations, Engineering and I.T. Departments along with additional event meetings.
  • Help maintain equipment inventory numbers and assist in ordering supplies.
  • Contribute to the overall maintenance of the facility through assigned tasks & projects
  • Contact, recruit and schedule interviews with applicants for part time Operations personnel.
  • Learn about the interview / offer process and shadow Supervisors
  • Opportunity to job shadow with other management personnel including Engineering, I.T., Production, and other administrative management positions.
  • Maintain positive, professional interpersonal relations with management, staff members, temps, applicants and guests in-person, by phone and in written communication.
  • Maintain a well-groomed appearance in business casual dress
  • The employee must regularly arrive on-time and maintain excellent attendance

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some college courses completed in the area of sports management, event management, facility management, trades, business, or similar field
  • Desire to learn about facility management / operations as it relates to events
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret event resumes for room sets
  • Ability to follow multi-step directions in a fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • Maintain positive, respectful and professional communications with all team members
  • Ability to learn safety / operational standards in accordance with company, local, state, federal, OSHA
  • Proficient computer skills in a Windows format including an understanding of MS Excel, Outlook; and professional typing skills.
  • Willingness to assist in all areas of the facility to ensure successful event execution, transitions
  • Willingness to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and shifts of more than 8 hours
