The Trades Helper provides assistance in various areas within the Facilities Department. It will may be helping the Pool Technician with water pumps, electrical or building maintenance, including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, door locks and hardware, painting, and lighting. The candidate will be assigned to assist with install, maintain, equipment, and fixtures in the facility to ensure that they are in good working condition.  We are all responsible for and ensuring overall customer satisfaction at Fair Park.


This role will pay an hourly wage of $18.24.

About the Venue

Fair Park is a 277-acre, multi-venue complex and a public park located in South Dallas, near downtown.  We are home to 7 cultural institutions, the iconic Cotton Bowl Stadium, the State Fair of Texas and is the largest collection of Art Deco Architecture in the U.S. and is designated as a National Historical Landmark.


  • Assists with facilities services such as HVAC, plumbing, pool and water pumps, electrical, electronics, minor carpentry and painting, etc.
  • Ensure the facitiliy rules, regulations, policies and procedures are adherred to
  • Assist with responds to emergency situations and takes precautions for the well-being and protection of property and patrons
  • Assist with maintenance and to ensure safety and sanitary contions, leaving work area in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Operates equipment power tools and general tools and in-house equipment
  • Assist with inventory of machinery and equipment
  • Maintain and submit timely and accurate daily work logs to standards for repairs
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


  • High school diploma, GED, or related trade school training; valid driver’s license; and interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with guests, vendors, staff, and other facility users.
  • Previous 2 years experience in trades strongly preferred
  • Familiarity of OSHA requirements/environmental practices
  • Prefer some experience working with HVAC cooling towers and a mix of facilities such as plumbing, maintenance, etc.
  • Be reliable, honest, dependable, and punctual and have strong customer service.
  • Be a self-starter; have ability to take directions; and be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work long and irregular hours for events and emergencies include daytime, evening, weekends and some holidays
  • Professional appearance (wear company guideline uniform)


Physical Demands:


  • Requires frequent walking/standing (possibly uneven surfaces), climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, working in cramped positions reaching, pushing, pulling, driving, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to safely climb and navigate stairs, work on roofs and catwalks 
  • Good eye and hand coordination and reflexes for the safe operation of equipment.
  • Good visual acuity with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment using MS Windows, Outlook and internal programs for training purposes


Work Environment:


  • This position requires work inside and/or outside of the building, as needed by events and is subjected to changing climate and adverse weather conditions.
  • The worker is subjected to noise. Noise levels will vary depending on job task and events in the park
  • Knowledge of safe operation of tools and equipment

Must be able to work flexible shift/schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
