Overview

We are seeking passionate hockey instructors to join our team and contribute to the development of aspiring hockey players and to work under the general supervision of the rink program manager. As a Hockey Instructor, you will be responsible for designing and implementing effective training programs, conducting on-ice drills, and providing valuable guidance to players of all skill levels. Your goal is to foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that enhances players' skills, teamwork, and overall enjoyment of the sport.

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $20 to $30.00.

About the Venue

The William D. Mullins Memorial Center is a multi-purpose 10,500-seat facility on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. Home to UMass basketball and hockey, the facility hosts concerts, family, ice, and theater shows.

Responsibilities

Plan and Execute Training Sessions:

  • Develop comprehensive and age-appropriate training programs for individuals and teams.
  • Conduct on-ice drills to improve players' fundamental skills, including skating, puck handling, shooting, and team strategies.

Skill Assessment:

  • Evaluate players' abilities and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide constructive feedback to help players enhance their performance.
  • Technique Instruction:
  • Teach proper techniques for various hockey skills, ensuring players develop sound fundamentals.
  • Demonstrate advanced maneuvers and strategies to challenge and inspire players.

Player Development:

  • Create personalized development plans for players based on their skill levels and goals.
  • Foster a positive and motivating atmosphere to encourage continuous improvement.

Game Strategy:

  • Instruct players on team dynamics, positioning, and strategic play during games.
  • Emphasize the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.
  • Safety and Equipment Management:
  • Promote a safe playing environment by enforcing safety rules and guidelines.
  • Oversee the maintenance and proper use of hockey equipment.
  • Enforcement of all rules regarding rink policies and operating procedures. 

Communication:

  • Effectively communicate with players, parents, and coaching staff.
  • Provide regular updates on player progress and team activities.

Qualifications

Hockey Experience:

  • Strong background in playing and/or coaching hockey.
  • In-depth knowledge of hockey techniques, rules, and strategies.
  • Coaching Certification:
  • Possession of relevant coaching certifications is preferred.

Teaching Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and instruct players of varying skill levels.
  • Patience and a positive attitude towards player development.
  • Teamwork:
  • Collaborative approach to working with coaching staff, players, and parents.
  • Passion for Development:
  • Genuine passion for fostering the growth and development of hockey players.

Flexibility:

  • Willingness to adapt training methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Availability:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends based on training schedules and game commitments.
