Overview

This position helps coordinate the day-to-day operations of the facilities (arena, basketball facility, ice rink, meeting rooms), including set-up/changeovers, custodial/housekeeping, maintenance, and ground keeping. The Conversion Manager helps manage, supervise, and coordinate the set-up and operations of the building including managing and overseeing building changeovers. Assists the Director of Operations in coordinating overall administrative planning, direction, and policies while maintaining the highest quality service program to ensure client satisfaction.  Assists in the development and management of annual Operations Department budget.

 

This role will pay a wage of $45,000 to $52,000.

The XL Center is Connecticut’s premier destination for sports & entertainment.
The 15,000+ seat downtown arena is home to the eleventh-time National Champion UConn Women's Basketball team and the five-time National Champion UConn Men's Basketball team. Led by Hall of Fame basketball Head Coach Geno Auriemma and Dan Hurley, the Men's & Women's basketball programs have established themselves as national powerhouses.

 

The XL Center is also home to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, the primary developmental affiliate of the New York Rangers.

 

The XL Center entertains millions of visitors annually with a variety of concerts, family shows, ice-skating spectaculars, consumer events, and trade shows throughout the season. The venue has played host to an extraordinary roster of world-renowned artists, including Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Pearl Jam, Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, Drake, and many others.

 

The XL Center will continue to be the center of sports and entertainment for Hartford and the State of Connecticut for years to come.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee changeovers and setups including event set-up and tear-down of i.e., dashers/plexi glass for hockey, basketball floor, hoops, stage risers, chairs, tables, signs, etc.
  • Helps manage the basketball practice facility needs- cleaning, maintenance, etc.
  • Helps develop, maintain, and manage operating procedures relating to changeovers.
  • Assists in overseeing daily operation and maintenance of the facility and all systems. This includes HVAC, sound, lighting, fire protection, life safety, workplace safety, communications, video boards, etc.
  • Helps schedule and oversees operational PT staff including changeover, custodial staff, etc.
  • Oversee the administration of all operations department part time staff: Hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and motivate
  • Assists in negotiation and administration of contracts with outside vendors including pest control, scoreboard systems, seasonal landscaping, etc.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Operations Department budget; Forecasting of future funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures.
  • Order materials for building supplies and maintenance within budget guidelines; receive & maintain supplies
  • Assist in developing preshow department staffing estimates of expense for the Event Manager and Accounting.
  • Review and recommend day to day operational policies and procedures for the Operations department
  • Maintain, organize, and keep inventory department equipment
  • Facilitate compliance, training, and updates to the Emergency Action Plan, as needed
  • Assists with building Health & Safety compliance
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Technical degree from an accredited college/university/school preferred
  • Minimum of one to two (1-2) years’ experience in facility operations management including at least one year of building changeover work in arena, convention center or public assembly facility including set-up/housekeeping
  • Demonstrated knowledge of facility management, supervisory skills, and experience in staff supervision
  • Ability to function in a fast paced, high-pressure environment; possess superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and demanding hours including overnights, weekends, and holidays, as required
  • Proficiency with general office PC applications
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize quickly
  • Must be self-motivated and have excellent organizational skills
