Overview

OVG/Fair Park in Dallas, is searching for Laborers for our operations in East Dallas, near downtown.  The Laborer is responsible for assisting in the daily upkeep of the grounds and appearance of our park by performing a wide variety of landscape and irrigation duties.

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $13 to $14.75.

About the Venue

Fair Park is a 277 acre, multi venue complex and a public park located in South Dallas, TX, near downtown.  We are home to 7 cultural institutions, iconic Cotton Bowl Stadium and the State Fair of Texas, is also the largest collection of Art Deco Architecture in the U.S. and is designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Responsibilities

  • Perfom landscape duties including but not limited to mowing, edging, trimming, aerating, top dressing, laying down sod and mulch, planting flowers, cleaning up debris, digging, blowing leaves, pulling weeds, watering plans, etc.
  • Use hand tools: shovels, rakes, pruning equipment, hedge, brush trimmers to perform a range of landscape and irrigation duties
  • Take care of all equipment and materials used in performing landscaping duties
  • Clear sidewalks, driveways and parking lots of debris
  • Perfom loading and unloading of equipment, tools, materials and debris to and from vehicles
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment as needed
  • Follow company's safety policies, guidelines and instructions
  • Practice consistent dependability, attendance and adheres to work schedules as given
  • May assist in minor exterior repairs as needed to help the overall success of the park and buildings
  • Clearly, effectively, and timely communicate work issues with supervisors and staff
  • Provide customer service assistance to internal and external clients
  • Duties will be assigned and change as needs arise

Qualifications

Must be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

 

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid driver license
  • 6 months of general landscape experience
  • Ability to work in a variety of outside conditions for long periods of time and in inclement weather
  • Must be able to work 8+ hours per day with applicable breaks x 5 days wk (some overtime with weekend work required)
  • Previous experience in commercial ground maintenance/horticulture
  • Ability to use hand equipment with mechanized moving blades- gas-powered shear, etc
  • Ability to use manual hand tools to move soil, equipment, materials, dig holes, plant trees, shrubs and flowers
  • Ability to communicate clearly in the English language, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
